Zachariah Lowe is the Education Resource Specialist at C-SPAN in Washington, D.C. He was the 2017-18 Sumter School District Teacher of the Year and a top-five finalist for 2019 South Carolina State Teacher of the Year in 2018. Originally from Northeast Ohio, Zachariah became a teacher to “make a positive influence in the lives of the next generation of world leaders.” Lowe graduated from The University of Akron with a Bachelor's Degree in AYA Social Studies Education in 2014 and from The University of South Carolina-Columbia with a Master's Degree in Educational Administration in 2017. He has worked tirelessly to ensure that his students become critical thinkers and doers. His students have been recognized at both local and national levels for awards such as the National WWII Museum’s Billy Michal Student Leadership Award and the NASC/Ruth Hollander Award for outstanding contributions to participation in democracy. Mr. Lowe himself has been awarded several accolades for his work inside and outside the classroom, including nearly $75,000 in classroom-based grants. He has attended numerous professional fellowships, including at Ford’s Theatre, Colonial Willamsburg, C-SPAN, Mount Vernon, and the United States Supreme Court. In addition, he has authored a chapter for global studies textbook and has served as a presenter and co-presenter, at numerous national, regional, and local workshops and conferences. Outside of his work, Mr. Lowe has been named a "Top-20 Professional Under 40" and the Sumter Young Professional of the Year. He has also served on numerous boards and public service commissions and is vested in community service activities. Mr. Lowe is happily married to his husband Erick.
